The project kicked off with the first item of displaying a variety of traditional costumes of Indonesia. The traditional costumes displayed by 10 of our friends was definitely an eye-opener as we come to realize that there are different traditional costumes from different regions of Indonesia. It was a rare opportunity for us to see these costumes.

Four different types of traditional costumes were introduced to us. Two couples (Dulcia and Kian Ann, Erin and Adeline) were dressed in two different sets of traditional wedding costumes. First up was the traditional wedding costume from Jawa. Pengantin Jawa (Javanese bride and groom) appear in light coloured outfit. The bridegroom carried a keris and wore a hat called blankon. Well, the keris is said to be a weapon of some kind to protect the lovely bride from any harm.

It was followed by the display of traditional costume from Yogya and Pengantin Yogya appear in black outfit.

Next up was a traditional costume also from Jawa, known as the Kebaya. The two ladies (Wei Shan and Jia En) looked beautiful in the kebaya. The kebaya is somewhat comparable to the Chinese cheongsam. Both give a "traditional" feel.
Following the kebaya was the traditional costume from Bali. Shaowei and Peishi looked gorgeous in them. Last but not least were the two lovely girls (Sok Huan and Carine) who were dressed in the traditional costumes from Sulawesi.
The costumes may be different but they are unique and strikingly beautiful. Distinctive, they are, and so are the cultures and languages of these regions.
