Tari Bali

The traditional dances in Bali are mainly performed for sacred and religious ceremonies, being used to convey stories and moral messages to spectators as well as for the entertainment of guests and family. These dances are also unique in that the costumes and make-up used by the performers vary according to the purpose and nature of the dance or occasion. The dance costumes are also ornate and brightly coloured as they are replicas of what was worn by the royal family of Bali in the past.

Balinese dance is built upon three basic foundations — Wiraga , Wirasa and Wirama, which refers to movements, feelings and music respectively.

Our Balinese dance — Tari Bali during project day was indeed very impressive. This item is incorporated as part of the skit. There are 3 dancers altogether and due to space constraint at the front of LT9, they were split in such a manner that one dancer was dancing at one side of the LT and the other two on the other side. It was truly an eye opener to see the synchronized dance put up by them and the beautiful costumes that they wore.

For our dancers to have gone through only a modicum of practice sessions and still turn in such an enthralling performance was a real feat! Credit has to be given to them for their dedication and ability to pick up all the dance movements and remember them in such a short time frame, and then execute them with such poise and grace. And last but not least, great thanks to our ibus-in-charge for their hard work and effort in making the Balinese dance item a success!
