Indonesiamu Indonesiaku
LAB1201 Bahasa Indonesia Project Day
The date: 28th February 2004.
The venue: LT9.

Despite having to miss precious hours of sleep on a comfy Saturday morning, some 196 of us conquered our alarm clocks for "Indonesiamu Indonesiaku". (mu comes from the word kamu, which means `you'; ku comes from the word aku, which means `I'.)
This annual project
organized by our Ibus of LAB1201, promised a morning of entertainment, Bahasa
Indonesia novices' style. For those who arrived as early as 8am to move and
hang, or even earlier for those who sacrificed sleep to cook for the hungry,
that Saturday proved to be an eventful one.
Aptly named, this project cum event seeks to wet our appetite with the alluring
Indonesian culture. Thanks to students-turned-models for that morning, our eyes
feasted on colours and details as they braved the treacherous stairs in LT 9 to
parade in traditional costumes.
If that was insufficient to awake our senses, music accompanied our friends who twisted and swayed, in style and grace, during the Balinese Dance. The audience was also charmed by the soft and lively musical notes which floated from the angklung symphony. The choir also attempted to defy the dearth of performing arts in Singapore when they teased us with actions and vocals. There were also familiar bouts of laughter when the skit entertained us in the nascent language acquired, but littered with local slang accompanied of course.
The event culminated with the growling of our tummies when we moved out of the cold to the benches outside LT9. Decorated with colour and taste, recipes materialized, courtesy of friends who amazingly, can cook! Our gastronomical experience was fittingly accompanied with batik displays done by our fellow friends, who were also on hand to dispense batik advice.
This project write-up and webpage was brought to u by the logistics team. While we apologise for all the action that should have been duly captured, we hope that your experience in "Indonesiaku, Indonesiamu" may nonetheless be rekindled with the photos.
Enjoy!
